Field Mechanic/Welder

Objective and Responsibilities:

  • Perform repairs to equipment, trucks, and vehicles.
  • All kinds of welding, brazing, and cutting using gas and electric welding equipment.
  • Follow Material Safety Data Sheet guidelines for handling, storage, and disposal of Hazardous Materials, as required.
  • Work under general supervision from verbal and written instructions and intermittent directions.

 

Duties, Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:

  1. Perform repairs to equipment, trucks, and vehicles.
  2. Diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, such as cranes, bulldozers, graders, and conveyors used in construction.
  3. Repairs and replaces damaged or worn parts.
  4. Operates and inspects machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
  5. Road test vehicles after they have been repaired.
  6. Listen for other problems with the vehicle during the road test.
  7. Check the vehicle for cleanliness (no grease or dirt left from repairs).
  8. Follow all standard safety rules and regulations.
  9. Must be trained and qualified to do required repair work on vehicles.
  10. Check for additional repairs needed before turning the completed work over to the Foreman.
  11. Let the Foreman know of additional repairs needed.
  12. Receives instructions, prints, and work orders for the job. Plans details of working procedure and tools and material requirements.
  13. Fabricates equipment by cutting, burning, and welding various metals. Repairs equipment by using welding techniques and appropriate welding equipment.
  14. Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded. Sets up, assembles, and tacks weld parts.
  15. Builds up worn or defective surfaces.
  16. Uses burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape.
  17. Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  18. Work as a team alongside the other departments.

 

Nonessential Duties:

  • Perform other duties of the same or lower level of difficulty as assigned.
  • May be assigned occasional duties of a higher level of difficulty than those listed above.
  • The duties of this classification may overlap duties performed by employees in other classifications.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 months basic knowledge in maintenance preferred.
  • Must be familiar with the OSHA requirements in proper lifting techniques.
  • Ability to lift 70 lbs.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Ability to use hand tools and trades type tools.
  • Must have a valid state driver’s license (preferably CDL) with clean driving record and the ability to be insured to operate company vehicles.
  • Ability to communicate with customers and fellow employees.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment Drug & Alcohol test.
  • Must be able to pass background check to be able to access DOD installations, facilities and buildings.
